The Harlem Art Council will host its September open house event featuring the Mascaro Art Group. The event will take place at the civic center at 375 N. Louisville St. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The members of the Mascaro Art Group will honor the late David Mascaro, who founded the group as a mentor and instructor in 2009. Mascaro, who died from cancer in 2015, previously had studied at the Art Students League, the School of Visual Arts, and the National Academy of Art in New York City. He was a medical illustrator and longtime member of the Medical College of Georgia facility.
Mascaro’s last group of students continue his legacy but incorporating his name into their group’s name. The 14 members pursue art and work in acrylics, oil, pastel and watercolor. They mostly do representational work can occasionally do abstract experimental art.
