Lakeside continues to roll as they picked up a 42-0 homecoming victory over Aiken on Friday. Quarterback Jaden Taylor had another impressive performance, and they displayed plenty of weapons on offense. The defense was also stout, holding Aiken without a first down in the first half. Also, Augusta Christian has a player to definitely keep an eye on – sophomore Zack Blackwell had another solid outing in the Lions loss to Ben Lippen. The Greenbrier transfer rushed for 171 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries, racked up six tackles on defense and had punts of 43 and 45 yards despite not playing the fourth quarter.
Here are this week’s picks
Last Week: 4-1 Season Total: 14-7
Greenbrier (0-3) vs. Baldwin (0-5)
Last Week: Greenbrier was idle/Baldwin lost to NS Warner Robins 33-28
Last Meeting: Baldwin won last year 14-0
Both teams are down compared to last season, and both have played tough schedules. I give Baldwin a slight advantage, but the Pack should keep it close.
Baldwin 30 Greenbrier 23
Grovetown (2-2) vs. Thomson (2-0)
Last Week: Grovetown was idle/Thomson lost to Greater Atlanta Christian 38-19
Last Meeting: Thomson won last year 20-13
Thomson is vastly improved from last season. Their two loses have come versus high quality opponents. This should be a great game with two physical teams. I give a slight edge to Thomson, largely due to Tay Martin’s game-breaking ability.
Thomson 23 Grovetown 16
Lakeside (3-0) vs. Emerald (1-4)
Last Week: LHS crushed Aiken 42-0 / Emerald lost to Strom Thurmond 31-6
Last Meeting: Emerald won last year 27-20
Emerald may have won a year ago, but Lakeside is one of the area’s most improved teams. They are averaging over 40 ppg. And should be able to get win number four.
Lakeside 37 Emerald 14
Augusta Christian (2-2) vs. Heathwood Hall (3-1)
Last Week: ACS lost to Ben Lippen 35-14/Heathwood Hall hammered Pinewood Prep 48-8
Last Meeting: Heathwood Hall won last year 43-0
Augusta Christian is playing much better this year, but they face another tough test this week versus Heathwood Hall. It should be close, but I give HH the edge.
Heathwood Hall 38 Augusta Christian 30
Augusta Prep (0-4) @ Bulloch Academy (3-1)
Last Week: AP lost to Frederica Academy 63-0 / Bulloch topped Westfield 56-0
Last Meeting: Bulloch Academy won last year 42-23
Bulloch comes in averaging 42 points per contest and will pose a major problem for an undermanned Augusta Prep team.
Bulloch Academy 52 Augusta Prep 13
