Hephzibah traveled to Louisville a week ago to try and add another region win to their record. Following a 44-28 loss to Jefferson County, the Rebels look to rebound as they host Harlem in this week’s Augusta Chronicle game of the week.
The Rebels (4-1, 3-1 Class 4-AA) come into their fifth region game of the year with an explosive offense and a stingy defense. While they struggled to stop Jefferson County, they still found success offensively. Junior quarterback Marshall Chambers will look to lead the Rebels offensively again as he threw for 239 yards, two touchdowns and an interception last week. Defensively, the Rebels have Jaiden Wofford and Jecori Johnson with two interceptions eachand Ronald Coleman with one. Jalen Gibson, Nickolas Callen and Ivan Arroyo each have four sacks through five games.
For Harlem, there’s no surprise who’s going to lead the offense. Cameron Garnett has 101 carries and 742 yards through five games — he missed a game against Washington-Wilkes as a precaution following an injury. The Bulldogs (3-3, 3-1 Class 4-AA) struggled in non-region play, but like Hephzibah, have found success against teams in the region. Harlem’s lone loss is to Jefferson County as well. They’ve gotten wins against Glenn Hills, Butler and Laney so far.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Big John McLeod Stadium at Hephzibah High School.
