Evans used a dominant second half to pull away for a lopsided win over Greenbrier. Evans was held to 61 yards rushing in the first half but had 17 carries for 221 yards after the break to improve to 3-0 in region play. Harlem locked up a home playoff game with their win on Saturday over Josey. Cameron Garnett continued his impressive play with over 100 yards rushing in the first half. He is among the top 10 rushers in the entire state. Here is a look at outlooks for this week’s games:

Last Week: 5-0

Season total: 33-14 (70.2%)

Evans (5-2, 3-0) @ Alcovy (2-6, 1-2)

Last Week: Evans beat Greenbrier 46-15/Alcovy lost to Heritage 19-0

Last Meeting: Evans won last year 24-5

Evans is in line to win a region title and should be able to stay perfect in Region 3-AAAAAA versus Alcovy this week. The Knights were very impressive in their win over Greenbrier last week and are starting to play with a lot of confidence.

Evans 33 Alcovy 16

Grovetown (3-5, 0-3) vs. Heritage (4-4, 2-1)

Last Week: Grovetown lost to Lakeside 18-13/Heritage topped Alcovy 19-0

Last Meeting: Grovetown won last year 12-7

Grovetown has not been able to find its way since their early season victory over Thomson and this week will be a tall order versus a solid Heritage squad.

Heritage 23 Grovetown 14

Greenbrier (1-7, 1-2) vs. Lakeside (6-1, 2-1)

Last Week: Greenbrier lost to Evans 46-15/Lakeside beat Grovetown 18-13

Last Year: Greenbrier won last year 14-6

Greenbrier fought hard last week versus Evans but simply wore down in the second half. Lakeside is trying to fight for a home playoff spot and cannot afford a letdown.

Lakeside 24 Greenbrier 20

Augusta Christian (3-6, 2-6) @ Pinewood Prep (0-9, 0-7)

Last Week: ACS lost to First Baptist 35-22/Pinewood lost to Laurence Manning 34-6

The Lions should be able to get back in the win column this week versus winless Pinewood Prep. I expect a big game on the ground from Zack Blackwell and a Lions victory.

Augusta Christian 37 Pinewood Prep 13

Augusta Prep (0-8, 0-1) @ Thomas Jefferson Academy (6-2, 1-2)

Last Week: AP lost to Westfield 43-13/TJA topped Monsignor Donovan 33-14

Augusta Prep has endured a tough season, but I give their coaches and young players a great deal of credit for handling a tough situation and not giving up. It will help them in the years to come. Unfortunately, they face another tough matchup this week with Thomas Jefferson Academy.

Thomas Jefferson 46 Augusta Prep 13
