Firehouse Subs has returned to Evans with a drive-thru — the first in the area for the fast-casual restaurant chain.
Operating partner Lee Bowers and her team reopened the upgraded store in the Mullins Crossing shopping center at 525 Mullins Colony Drive on Oct. 18.
“We knew it would be something new and exciting and we wanted to stay current with what’s going on in the area,” Bowers said.
Founded by firefighters in Florida in 1994, the company offers sandwiches with salads, soup and chili. A portion of the sales benefit public safety organizations and nonprofits.
The previous locations on Washington Road near Walmart and on Columbia Road were closed in anticipation of the recent store opening, Bowers said. The new store is easier for customers to access and traffic has picked up since its opening, she said.
“We saw a great opportunity to give new life to two restaurants that may not have been our best performing locations,” Bowers said.
The company considered adding a drive-thru at its stores about seven years ago following an increase in takeout orders and third-party delivery services, she said.
“We’re seeing less and less of the dine-in customer,” Bowers said. “The customer base essentially is letting the industry know, ‘We want things that are convenient; we want to be in and out.’”
She said the location will also host special events and fundraisers to support the community.
“For so long, people thought we were just a sandwich shop but it seems like we’re becoming known as a company that has this great charitable side that sells sandwiches, also.”
