In need of wide receivers, UGA football signed five in last year’s recruiting class.

A late signing-day add was Jermaine Burton, whose commitment to the Bulldogs didn’t come until mid-afternoon on December’s early signing day.

Burton scored the first touchdown of his Georgia career Saturday against Alabama on a 5-yard pass from Stetson Bennett late in the first half to give Georgia a 24-17 lead.

He emerged last week in Georgia’s 44-21 win over Tennessee with a pair of catches for 26 yards and an end around run for 43 yards. Through three games, Burton was Georgia’s third leading receiver with four catches for 53 yards.

Here’s three things to know about Burton:

— Cross-country journey.

Burton is a speedy player from Calabassas, Calif., who was a four-star recruit according to the 247sports composite rankings. He was the 82nd overall recruit and 15th best receiver in the country.

— Flipped from LSU

Burton was committed to the Tigers until signing day when he pulled a surprising move by backing off his verbal pledge to LSU and instead signed with the Bulldogs. In his commitment announcement, Burton thanked his family before someone in the crowd yelled out ’Go Dogs.’ Laughing, Burton pulled a Georgia hat out of a bag and donned it, officially flipping his choice to the Bulldogs.

— High school star

Burton had 863 yards receiving on 40 receptions with 14 touchdowns during his senior campaign at Calabassas High School. He planned to attend IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., but decided against it before his senior year began. While at Calabassas, Burton played alongside current receivers Mycah Pittman of Oregon and Johnny Wilson of Arizona State.
