Last Week: 4-0
Season Total: 34-9
This week’s games:
Evans (5-2) @ SE Bulloch (4-2)
Last Week: Evans beat Lakeside 55-6/SE Bulloch was idle
The Knights got their high-powered offense back on track in a lopsided win over Lakeside. They should be able to continue their winning ways this week vs. SE Bulloch.
Evans 34 SE Bulloch 20
Harlem (2-5) @ Thomson (6-2)
Last Week: Harlem was idle/Thomson beat Burke County 30-23
Thomson will be able to run the ball on the Bulldogs, but Harlem’s offense will be equally tough to stop.
Thomson 37 Harlem 30
Lakeside (1-6) @ Alcovy (1-5)
Last Week: Lakeside lost to Evans 55-6/Alcovy beat Grovetown 44-14
The Panthers are struggling, and they now face a much improved Alcovy squad coming off a confidence building victory last week. I think Alcovy gets the win here.
Alcovy 37 Lakeside 17
Greenbrier (5-2) @ Johnson-Gainesville (0-8)
Last Week: Greenbrier lost to Clarke Central 56-21/Johnson lost to Apalachee 45-0
Greenbrier played Clarke Central tough in the first half before the Gladiators pulled away. The Pack will likely get back in the win column this week.
Greenbrier 41 Johnson-Gainesville 14
Grovetown (1-6) @ Rockdale County (0-2)
Last Week: Grovetown lost to Alcovy 44-14/Rockdale was shut out by Heritage 48-0
Both teams are having rough seasons, but I think Grovetown should have enough to pick up its second victory.
Grovetown 20 Rockdale County 7
Augusta Christian (8-1) vs. Trinity-Byrnes (4-5)
Last Week: ACS topped Ben Lippen 41-27/Trinity beat Cardinal Newman 41-14
The Lions open the playoffs with a challenging opponent in Trinity. Forget the record — they have given even the best teams in SCISA fits this year. That said, Trinity will have their hands full with the Lions’ offensive weapons: Jeb Bradford (QB), Jacob Walker (RB/WR), Terrence Vandiver (WR) and Zack Blackwell (RB). If there is a player in the area having a better year than Blackwell, please point him out. Through nine games, the junior standout has rushed for 1,529 yards and 22 touchdowns on 156 carries. He has also amassed 56 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, one interception, two sacks and is averaging over 35 yards per punt.
Augusta Christian 31 Trinity 27
Augusta Prep (3-5) vs. Briarwood Academy (3-3-1)
Last Week: AP lost to Piedmont Academy 40-20/Briarwood beat GSIC 40-0
Augusta Prep continues to play hard and has a very bright future with a lot of young players, but it will have a tough time this week versus Briarwood.
