The Greater Augusta Arts Council has begun a new fundraising campaign with future public art in mind. The campaign is #ArtCityAUG, with the tagline “Help make Augusta Your Favorite Arts Destination.”

With travel budgets going untapped this year amid COVID-19 precautions, the Arts Council is encouraging corporations, businesses and individuals to reallocate travel funds for tax-deductible donations to support the Arts Council’s mission as public art liaison.

The recent unveiling downtown of “The Spirit of Funk” mural featuring James Brown offers a “shining beacon of the kind of positive attention new public art brings to the CSRA,” the Arts Council said in a release.

The campaign, which runs from today through Dec. 31, will also be promoted as a fundraising effort for GA Gives Day and Giving Tuesday, both of which are Dec. 1. Online donations can be made at https://www.gagives.org/story/Supportarts.
